AP Forged Carbon Review - A Watch Stronger than Titanium?!?
http://www.crmjewelers.com – AP Forged Carbon Review – A Watch Stronger than Titanium?!?
The AP Forged Carbon is a stealthy, but elegant luxury watch for men that scores big in the Watch Game.
Yes, the “Watch Game.” Don't know what that is? Well, that's what these watch reviews and videos on our channel are all about. What they're focused on with laser precision...Not on deciphering the differential and chemical equations behind a watch's design. There are many channels that already do that in a very hold-on-to-your-seats fun kind of way (YAWN!). The Watch Game is all about scoring high with your wrist-wear and murdering everyone in the room (figuratively speaking)!
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Carbon, reference number 26400AU.OO.A002CA.01, is a 44mm chronograph with a case made from forged carbon. The original term is “forged composite,” a concoction of special, high-strength (“turbostatic”) carbon fibers held together in a resin. Jointly produced by Lamborghini and Callaway Golf Company in 2010, forged carbon anything from cars to golf clubs (to watches) lighter and stronger. Research shows that forged composite is stronger than titanium.
Forged carbon is also structurally different than “carbon composite,” which weaves carbon fibers together. The case of the AP Forged Carbon in this video is instead made of random combinations of loose fibers mixed with a resin that are pressed together at a high temperate and pressure. Pretty cool, huh?
This technology makes this chrono from Audemars Piguet very light and comfortable to wear. In fact, when you wear this watch for a while and then put on a metal watch, it will feel extremely heavy!
Price of AP Forged Carbon
The retail price of this Royal Oak Carbon is around $37,000, but if you are looking to buy it pre-owned (as I always recommend), you should try to pay somewhere around $25,000, which is a very good price.
It's true. A price this high for a watch made out of carbon (or as some would say, “plastic”) makes a lot of people cringe. For this reason, many opt for gold or stainless steel watches instead. As far as I'm concerned, this watch is worth every penny (remember that forged carbon is very expensive to manufacture). Even though I don't recommend it as a first-time buyer's watch, I definitely think you should buy it if you have the money and already have a few gold or metal watches in your high end lineup.
There is one thing you need to be careful about when looking for an AP Forged Carbon watch. Carbon cannot really be refinished. It's not like metal. Even though Audemars Piguet will accept it and say they will refinish it, I do not recommend it. Consequently, make sure that you inspect the watch carefully for damage before you buy it.
