Bible Book Overview - Genesis

Genesis is a book of revelation. Just as God revealed to John how everything would eventually end, which is recorded for us in the last book of the Bible, so God revealed to Moses how everything began, which is recorded for us in the first book of the Bible.

Genesis is a book of prose. It’s not poetry.

It is a book of facts, not myths.

Genesis is a book of introduction.

All the facts, truths and revelations of the Bible are here in embryo.

It is a seed plot of the entire word of God, and essential to the true understanding of its every part.

Genesis is a book of beginnings. And it tells us about the beginnings of the universe, life, man, marriage, Siân, death, redemption, cities, nations, languages, music, literature, art, and agriculture. It tells us about the beginning of almost everything except God. It is a book that begins with God already there at the beginning.

For the person who wants to begin with God it is an excellent book to start with.

Bible study suggestions:

Mark these words in chapter 1 underline each “and God said “, and connect it with the following “and it was so “. Noticed the power of gods word, and see how psalm 33:9 is an apt summary for this chapter

Ten “family histories “given in Genesis, marked by the words, “these are the generations of “. Find them, and mark them in chapter 2, 5, 6, 10, 11, 25, 36 and 37.

The Christian at death is not taken from his family and friends so much as “gather to his people “. This phrase occurs four times in Genesis.

Whose deaths are described in this way? Find an underline the words in chapter 25, 35 and 49.

It is interesting to note the first time certain words occur in the Bible. Underline the following ‘firsts’: “come” chapter 7, “drunk” chapter 9, “war” chapter 14, and “beliefs” chapter 15
