Waiheke Island is all about the vineyards and wine, tasting your way around the island is the ultimate way to truly experience everything this little slice of Auckland has to offer. To start with we're taking the Waiheke ferry, from Auckland CBD, collecting our rental car and checking out our accommodation with Stay Waiheke — https://www.staywaiheke.com

One of the best things to do in Waiheke is to take a wine tour, but rather than just book a taxi, use a car rental ourselves (limiting the tasting part) or pick an ordinary tour we found an incredible classic car tour!

Waiheke Classic Tours is a newish company offering tours around the island visiting a bunch of different vineyards for wine tasting... all while cruising around in an old classic car. We were in a 1957 Chevy and later a 1937 Buick Special and cruised around to Mudbrick vineyard and Tantalus estate for some wine tasting — https://www.waihekeclassictours.com

Waiheke Island is honestly so special, so relaxed and yet just busy enough — it's like being on island time, but never even leaving Auckland. Easily one of the best day trips in Auckland! (though a few days is a lot better of course!)
