Back Forty Bison presents "Working Your Bison Herd"

Since 2012, John and Rebecca Roller of Dadeville, Mo., have raised American bison. Their ranch, Back Forty Bison, is a breeding stock operation, and they offer heifer calves and bulls for sale as "starter herds." They also have a wholesale meat business.

Due to the close proximity of other species of livestock in the region, the Rollers choose to vaccinate their bison annually at the time of weaning, a day known as "Working Day." This process can be stressful for the animals, so the Rollers have developed a system to minimize stress and ensure the health and well-being of the bison.
