Elegie op. 3 no. 1, Sergei Rachmaninoff
I've been re-working the technique over the last couple of months, focussing on free elbows, flexible wrists, elimination of excessive vertical movement and softening the fingers of the right hand. Bad alignment of the right hand, and its consequent stiffness and spasming fingers as well as occasional pain in the back, was the reason for seeking a technical revamp. I'd considered the possibility that the malfunctioning was a consequence of focal dystonia, a common problem with pianists; I'm sure now this is not the case.
