Signed to Back Beat Records, in 1968, he had to wait until the release of his discofied version of the Robert Knight classic "Everlasting Love". The superior production really punched up the driving energy of the song and it peaked at #6 on the Hot 100 in October of 1974. Back Beat was absorbed by ABC Records and as a result Carl's royalties were in dispute for years, stalling a very promising career.
