Tavares ~ Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel 1976 Disco Purrfection Version

"Chubby & The Turnpikes" never had it so good! The Tavares Brothers; Butch, Chubby, Pooch, Ralph and Tiny came from Cape Verde via New Bedford, MA and recorded several singles. In 1973 they changed their name to Tavares and had their first #1 R&B hit with a cover of Hall & Oates "She's Gone" at the end of 1974.

1975 introduced them to the pop audience in the US with "It Only Takes A Minute" another #1 R&B which led them to be the opening act for the Jackson 5. 1976 LP "Sky High" contained the infectiously catchy "Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel" but caused them to be labeled as a disco group, especially after they recorded "More Than A Woman" for the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack.

R&B still embraced them and their last #1 there was "Whodunit" in 1977. Their songs are kept alive by new recordings done by Take That, and "Minute" was most recently sampled by Jennifer Lopez.

The original version of "Heaven" was used to great effect in the "Charlie's Angels" movie where Cameron Diaz led a disco fuelled group through some vintage moves. Good music never dies.....this one is dedicated to my friend niecy...she has been one of my greatest supporters since day 1 and through several incarnations of my channel....heaven must be missing an angel, but I know where she is! love ya niecy! MWAH!
