FACT 3: HIV can affect everyone, although it is more profound in gay community, it is also among heterosexual men and women. Since the epidemic began in the United States almost 90,00 people diagnose with HIV/AIDS were infected through heterosexual sex. In 2009 27% of HIV infections were attributed to heterosexual sex. In 2011 and estimated 3500 heterosexuals died from AIDS complications. As of 2013 HIV infections among heterosexuals are at a increased risk at a percent of 1.1%. In the heterosexual community women are more profoundly affected, attributing to 20% (9,500) of the estimated 47,500 new HIV infections in the United States in 2010. 84% of these new infections (8,000) were from heterosexual contact
