Why Are Some Countries Boycotting Eurovision?
EUROVISION PROTESTS
This year's Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna has sparked global protests and boycotts over Israel's participation. While millions of fans are waiting for stars to battle it out in the world's most famous song contest, boycotts over Israel's participation have also taken centre stage. Spain, the Netherlands, Ireland, Slovenia and Iceland have announced they're not going to broadcast the contest or send performers to compete because of Israel's involvement in the competition. They say Israel shouldn't be allowed to take part in Eurovision because of the war in Gaza. Experts say global boycotts could have an effect on things like viewership and sponsors. Protests against Israel's participation have been happening for a while now and this year, only 35 countries will take part in Eurovision the lowest number its been in over 20 years. While some are worried tensions could spill onto the stage, others hopes the competition can bring people together instead of dividing them.
AUSTRALIAN FASHION WEEK
Australian Fashion Week is underway in Sydney. The event is all about celebrating Australian designers and showcasing Australian Fashion. Things officially began yesterday with a Welcome to Country, followed by a runway show from Gomeroi woman Colleen Tighe Johnson.
H2 GRAND PRIX
Five teens from Whyalla in South Australia have earned themselves a spot at the H2 Grand Prix World Finals in Switzerland. The H2 Grand Prix is a program where students from around the world build their own hydrogen-powered cars and race for victory. Students from Whyalla in South Australia have spent hundreds of hours perfecting their car for the competition. They missed out on competing last year after they were disqualified over a technical fault in the SA qualifying event. But because they performed so well, they've been given a special invite to compete in this years finals in Switzerland. The team will need raise around $100,000 to cover all the costs for the comp like flights, accommodation and equipment, but they says it's worth the effort.
CAT SHOW EXPO
The Cat Show Expo in Bulgaria has been held, where more than 150 felines have put on a show to see which cat is the best. The furry and not so furry little guys are judged on a whole range of things. But it was Archie who took out the top title as audience favourite.
EUROVISION DANCE
In Austria some kids are putting on a show, teaching some kids at heart the dance moves for Austria's 2026 Eurovision Song Contest entry. The song is called Tanzschein, which translates to dance license. And after those dance moves, I'm sure they've earned their Dance License or Tanzschein.
SPANISH FLOWER FESTIVAL
In Spain there is a colourful show of flowers happening right now. The Temps de Flors festival is held every year and brings together floral art and the city's medieval architecture.
