Taiwan to Buy 400 US Anti-ship Missiles to Face China Threat

Taiwan has reportedly finalized a deal to purchase up to 400 land-launched Harpoon missiles from Boeing Co. as tensions rise between the United States and China. The missiles are intended to defend against a potential Chinese invasion and will be the first of their kind to be acquired by Taiwan. A $1.7 billion contract between the Pentagon and Boeing was announced on April 7, but no mention was made of Taiwan as the purchaser. Rupert Hammond-Chambers, president of the US-Taiwan Business Council, confirmed the contract, and three others familiar with the deal also confirmed that it is intended for Taiwan.
