2022 U.S. Navy Blue Angels Arrive at Oakland for Fleet Week 2022

The United States Navy's Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels, arrived at the Oakland Metropolitan Airport (KOAK) on Sunday 10/2/2022 in preparation for the annual Fleet Week Airshow in San Francisco. The team did a short transit flight from the Minden-Tahoe Airport (KMEV) following their afternoon demonstration at the Aviation Roundup Airshow, and landed just as the sun set in the Bay Area. Following the 2022 team in trail was one of next year's demonstration pilots, Lt. Amanda "STALIN" Lee with a spare jet.

A friend of mine and I were able to fly over to Oakland and watch the arrival on the ground while we were positioned abeam the parallel runway. It was quite a unique experience to see the team from another aircraft and hear Oakland's tower controllers safely coordinate the airspace for them. This is also why at certain angles in the video the footage is blurred or muffled as my camera struggled to focus through our aircrafts windscreen with the low lighting.

With the Blue Angels in town, San Francisco Fleet Week 2022 has begun. I will have footage up on this channel from their flight demonstrations this weekend.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, after recording this video the weather progressively got worse each day throughout the week inhibiting the team from being able to fly a full standard High Show or even a Low or Flat Show. The Friday show was the most they were able to work with but even that had such a bad fog layer that the Solos were not able to do anything outside of flat passes at 1500'. Looking forward to next year's airshow schedule starting with NAF El Centro 2023!
