The Tragic Truth About Alice in Chains

Alice in Chains first rose to fame in 1990 with their debut album Facelift, and the band’s combination of grunge and heavy metal proved to be a massive success.

The band — made up of singer Layne Staley, guitarist and singer Jerry Cantrell, bassist Mike Starr, and drummer Sean Kinney — continued to find success with their sophomore album Dirt, but soon, tragedy struck.

Starr and Staley both struggled with addiction, and sadly, both would die because of this. In addition, Cantrell had an extremely difficult childhood, and both he and Kinney have suffered injuries that have affected their music. Here’s the tragic truth about Alice in Chains.
