Amadi Iraqi Kurdistan

An old Assyrian strong point and fortress perched on a hill top. Human habitation dates back some 3,000 years.
I must admit, I was disappointed not to find a purely historical town; no old buildings, everything’s modern except for about four structures. Oh, well.

Amedi (or Amadiya) is one of many historical cities in the region. Historians claim that the city was founded in 3,000 B.C. and, on its foundation, it belonged to the Assyrian Empire, even though the village was occupied by many others afterwards.
