The F-105 Thunderchief in the Vietnam War: 140 Combat Missions Over Laos | Part 1: The Plain of Jars

Part One of an overview of all 140 combat missions that my dad, John Wright, flew in Laos in 1969-70. This video focuses on those missions he flew in Northern Laos, mostly around the Plain of Jars. The location of his missions and targets are given context against the background of the Laotian Civil War.

Much of the information I present concerning the ground situation in Northern Laos during my dad's deployment comes from "The United States Air Force in Southeast Asia: The War in Northern Laos, 1954-1973" by Victor B. Anthony and Richard R. Sexton published in 1993 by the Center for Air Force History. This enormous 409-page history was originally a classified document but has since been declassified.

The music at the very beginning of the video is taken from the intro of "The Door Into Summer", written by Chip Douglas & Bill Martin, performed by The Monkees (1967, Rhino Entertainment Company).
