Head Carving Studies and Practice | Wood carving

I've recently been trying to get more into carving anatomy and particularly faces, in wood carving this can be rather tricky due to the subtractive nature of the work. It can also be very rewarding when you carve something the way you pictured it in your mind.

In this video I take you through some of the steps I used to carve six little practice heads from lime wood and then a larger head from ash, in an attempt to see how much the practice helped.

If you'd like to get into carving but only have the use of flat bench chisels and affordable wood species like pine, I currently have three Skillshare classes available for that exact combination of resources - https://skillshare.com/user/timberanew

Thank you for viewing, check out the various links below if you'd like to see what else I get up to.
