Pigs Can Tell The Time - Wilson is it 5 O’Clock?

This is our 5pm daily routine! Whatever we are doing, Wilson let’s us know it’s 5 O’clock and time for his supper!

💯 we understand each other perfectly, through words and phrases we have taught each other from our own languages. This means we can be very specific about what we want to communicate.

Pigs have 23 different sounds they can make. Grunting, squealing, barking, whining, growling, shrieking, crying honking, oinking, low howling, purring, squeaking. They can combine these sounds and change the pitch of them by opening and closing their mouth. They combine audible language with body language whilst they read pheromones to determine the mood of the other pig/person/animal.

It’s a case of learning the specific phrases pigs use for a specific requirement. They have different phrases for Good morning (they are different for Wink, Fynnjan and me), for It’s 5pm, I need the hose, I want a scratch, we’ve eaten our pig nuts now so where is the fresh veg, I want company, something is wrong, I’m afraid, come help me, goodnight, hi, just checking you are OK, is that you?

Just the same as we have different phrases for different things. We have taught them so many words and phrases. They try hard to understand and know ‘Good’ means they’ve got it. A couple of repeats and it’s learned. I aim the simplicity of my conversation as if they are 3 year old children, they are cognitively their equivalent. Keep it clear and simple, they are dying to understand and the range of conversations you can have keeps on expanding!

The same can be said of all pigs. Some are smarter than others, just like humans and others can be a bit slow to catch on, just like humans. I can’t believe we used to eat them. Every one of them a smart, intelligent, peaceful, thinking, social and totally individual personality!

Such continually amazing creatures! So very kind when they have a safe home, their needs met and the time to build a trusting relationship with us and each other!
