ABOUT THIS VIDEO:

Originating from Soweto, South Africa, Bantu Continua Uhuru Consciousness, or more commonly known as BCUC, flips everything upside down. This Afro-psychedelic trance hypnotizes audiences, Kgomotso’s voice touches our soul and Jovi’s awakens our instincts, our anger, our demands, and slowly, as the trance intensifies, a world of possibilities opens up before us. They transmit an unspeakable force through reworked traditional sounds, so much so that no one can categorize them, and after all, is it really necessary? They denounce the tough reality in South Africa, the precariousness, the misery, the suffering, the corruption. These evils they have experienced together, which unites them and forms unbreakable bonds. BCUC are made up of six men and one woman who prove that no matter the language, one human can understand another. On stage there is a bass player, a conga player, two bass drummers, three vocalists – with a shona whistle thrown in for good measure. The first sound emitted is that of an Imbomu horn (ancestor of the Vuvuzela), which sounds the beginning of a unique performance, like each one given by the group. **Anaïs Christidis Guillemard**
