Erik Satie ~1902~ Tendrement (voice & piano)

According to a friend of his, Erik Satie remembered on his deathbed that he had written a few nice music works, citing « Tendrement » (Tenderly). He seemed to have an affection for this little waltz written 23 years earlier.

Reminding the ingenuous naivety of his earliest works, the Fantaisie-Valse and the Valse-Ballet, « Tendrement » has however, in the words of Armengaud, « an impeccable workmanship, a repetitive structure ABABA, an elegiac fusion of text and music that follows step by step, almost softly, the vicissitudes of the heart laid bare of the standard bluettes operetta lovers of the time. »

The solo piano version, for which I do not own a score, is titled « Illusion ».
