How Mikel Arteta Can Improve Arsenal For Next Season | Transfers, Tactics & Formations. Mikel Arteta is yet to steady the ship at Arsenal and he could require some transfers & tactical changes to get the Gunners to their best next season.

Let’s look at the most exciting part for Arsenal fans and that’s transfers! Arsenal have struggled massively over the years wether it’s under Arsene Wenger towards the end of his time in North London, Unai Emery and now with Mikel Arteta in identifying a reliable defence.

The short term solution is to find a compatible partner for David Luiz who has the pace and defensive ability to cover for the Brazilian, but is capable of getting involved in Arsenal’s build up play, unlike Sokratis. The first was signed in January and has already stepped in alongside Luiz, Pablo Mari. Mari is definitely an upgrade on the likes of Mustafi and Sokratis for Arteta’s system. But the most exciting potential partner for Luiz was signed last summer, 19 year old, William Saliba. The young Frenchman stands at a massive six foot three and a half and is already a strong defender that reads the game well for his age, a frightening duo.
Despite having his season hampered by injuries, he’s continued his impressive development. He’s a mainstay in St-Etienné’s defence and his return to fitness forced a switch to a back three to accommodate him which speaks volumes of the 19 year old’s ability.

If Arsenal are to truly sort out their centre back issues in the long run, they need to find a replacement for David Luiz and Reims centre back, Axel Disasi, looks an ideal candidate.
With just a year remaining on his current contract, it’s rumoured Disasi would cost around 15 million pounds and that seems to be good value.

Moving into midfield, Mikel Arteta seems to favour having a double pivot in a 4-2-3-1. Arteta has trialled Dani Ceballos, Lucas Torreria and Matteo Guendouzi as Xhaka’s partner with nobody making the role their own. The name on a lot of people’s lips is Thomas Partey.
The Ghanian is a superb footballer, both combative out of possession and composed in it. He’s got experience of, and performed on, the biggest stage against some of the best sides in world football for Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid. Another option from La Liga could be Espanyol’s Marc Roca - a combative, deep lying playmaker, Roca has all the attributes to succeed in defensive midfield. Not only does he make 3.8 tackles per game, more than any Arsenal player this season, he’s got the passing range to playmake from deep, and if his teammates were better finishers, he’d have more than a single La Liga assist this season from defensive midfield.

Christopher Nkunku could be the ideal option to come in and take Mesut Ozil’s creative role in Arteta’s setup. Nkunku has played many roles under Julian Nagelsmann and has proven to be a top creator in the Bundesliga this season. Signing him could mean you could play him off the striker at 10 or even have Ozil there and start the Frenchmen on the left of the attacking three and combine with Bukayo Saka. The RB Leipzig man has registered 12 assists this season, whilst Ozil has only managed to put up six assists in 44 Premier League games for the Gunners.
