How to track custom events with Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics

Learn how to track custom events such as logins or audio/video player interactions (but not limited to).

Google Tag Manager offers a bunch of built-in triggers that will help you capture the most standard interactions happening on a website (like clicks, scroll, embedded youtube videos, etc.)

But what if you cannot find a solution on how to track a certain event with GTM? Built-in variables are not useful and there is no ready-made solution offered by someone else.

You can always rely on developers or try to find ready-made custom solutions.

Speaking of ready-made custom solutions, Google search is your best friend.

Speaking of cooperation with developers, what they need to do is to push the event information to the Data Layer once that particular interaction occurs. After that, you will be able to catch the needed information with GTM and send the event further to Google Analytics.

Also, in some cases, it’s possible to find Google Tag Manager plugins that push some data to the data layer as well. But this depends on the ecommerce platform or CMS that you are using.

In this video, however, I will focus on ready-made solutions and cooperation with developers.
