Top 8 Things To Do in BIG SUR California (Highway 1 Road Trip from Carmel by the Sea)

In Part 4 of our road trip up California’s Highway 1, we continue north to explore the best things to do in Big Sur, California!

Beginning our day with the best coffee in Carmel-By-The-Sea, we hit the road for our first stop, Point Lobos State Natural Reserve. At Point Lobos, we watch the cute seals lounge on the beach and swim in the blue waters of China Cove, then explore Bird Island where we find thousands of nesting birds. ,

Next, we hop on Highway 1 to explore the Calla Lily Valley and Garrapata State Beach. Both stops did not disappoint! We went on a Lily safari of sorts and took in the captivating crystal blue waves of the beach. Afterwards, we drove across the famous Bixby Creek Bridge on our way to Big Sur Bakery for lunch!

Big Sur Bakery has to be the best cafe in Big Sur, California (maybe all of Hwy 1)! This property is part cafe, part art studio and part garden. Big Sur Bakery totally charmed us and the food and coffee were beyond excellent!

After fueling up, we round out our day with another classic Big Sur stop, McWay Falls! The water at McWay Falls flows directly over a cliff and into the ocean for a very unique and beautiful pit stop on our Pacific Coast Highway Road Trip! This is a must-visit viewpoint on California’s Highway 1.

One very last thing is a quick tour of the charming town of Carmel-By-The-Sea. We stayed at the Carmel Fireplace Inn and highly recommend it!
