Holocaust Memorial Day event 2014

On Monday night, 27 January, more than 300 people attended Brent's Holocaust and Genocide Memorial Day to remember those who lost their lives during the Holocaust and those affected by genocides all over the world.

Two speakers, Mr Sabit Jakupovic and Mr Leslie Rubner, recounted their personal journey of genocide survival in Bosnia and Hungary.

There was also a presentation by Mr Akin Shenbanjo about how people of African descent were persecuted in Nazi Germany.

The event was compered by Rabbi Kathleen de Magtige-Middleton and included a performance by the Brent Music Service String Quartet and a Holocaust poetry reading by the local scouts group.
