Nishma and Mahersh Shah - Owners, Shambhu's
Nishma is a Kenyan-born Indian, who came to the UK as a teenager in 1989, and moved to Brent in 1998 upon marrying her husband Mahersh. In 2005, they launched Shambhu’s, an award-winning ethically-conscious plant-based food business. Through Shambhu’s, their mission has been to showcase how delicious, varied and nutritious plant-based food can be, to teach how simple it is to prepare, and to help do their bit for the planet one meal at a time. From the outset, Shambhu's has been set up as an eco-friendly business. While the plant-based food aspect is the most significant green factor, the business is green in other ways too. In November 2020, Brent Council awarded Shambhu's "Most Green Business", as part of the 2020 Small Business Saturday Awards.
Reema Mavani - Franchise Owner, McDonald's
Reema worked in the corporate world of I.T. management before becoming a Franchisee at McDonald's. In partnership with Franchisees, suppliers and producers, McDonald's is finding new and innovative ways to reduce emissions, keep waste out of nature and preserve natural resources. From minimizing packaging to investing in renewable energy and partnering to advance sustainable and regenerative agriculture practices – McDonald's is committing to help protect our planet for communities today and in the future.
