IWS After the Game - Fresno State Football Edition 2021
Fresno State football was back and better than ever this season! After taking a year hiatus due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Dogs took back the field August 27th and played six home games. As always, the valley came out and cheered the Dogs on with a few games being near or at the 40K seat capacity, not including the four tailgate areas. The most notably trashy feature this year was a change in haulers. Since the early 2000s, BFI, Allied Waste and now Republic Services held a tight grip but this year, IWS was awarded a five year contract for the whole athletics department.
Living outside the valley now, I wasn’t able to make it out to all the games but still managed to film the aftermath of the CalPoly, New Mexico, and the sell out Boise State game. Behind the wheels this year are Daniel and Eric on the front loaders and the very talented Edward in the side loader. Like past years, it isn’t always the easiest job especially when the clean up crew puts the carts within inches of each other as seen in one clip but these guys make it work! This is the first time since the late 2000s that a Python has been on the grounds as those were some of the trucks based out of the BFI and AW yard back in the day.
The IWS contract calls for 450/$19.4K brand new carts over the course of the contract which means this is the last video with BFI, AW and RS carts. Between seasons, the rest of the blue EVRIIs will get distributed and everything else will be scrapped. After the Los Banos roll in, a few filmers believed Fresno State was the last place in the nation to have blue BFI EVRs and BFI blue AW Otto carts still “on route”. Even if Republic was renewed, they were also planning a roll out so it was coming sooner or later. Personally I think the EVRIIs with the bulldog are much better than 450 charcoal Q-series.
And with previous seasons, everything gets trashed still. I’ve had a few comments in the past about cost and why not use roll offs so here’s an actual cost breakdown: IWS charges Fresno State $2,995 per game which includes the 96 gallons, 3-3yds 4-4yds and the two drivers/trucks. Each 30 yd rolloff costs $395 per haul so doing conversion, it actually costs more to have roll off service!
As always, a HUGE thanks to Edward, Eric, Daniel, the clean up crew, and grounds manager for making this possible!
