Marborg's Isla Vista Move Out 2024

The Isla Vista move out is an annual tradition for the small Community Service District. Being right next to UCSB, a majority of college students who don’t live in the dorms chose to live in IV. Every year when the spring semester ends, most students choose to go back home for the summer, taking what they deem valuable, donating what is salvageable and throwing out the rest which results in TONS of trash being produced. To help keep the trash under control, for two weeks straight, Marborg runs nonstop trash, recycle and bulky item collection. During the week, it’s common to see a few trucks roaming around, but on the weekends when normal routes aren’t running and trucks and drivers are free, multiple trucks swarm the streets emptying anything and everything. To help divert as much as possible, Marborg sends out flatbeds to collect white goods and mattresses while IV CSD trucks roam the streets looking for anything in good condition that could be donated and takes them to a staging area at UCSB. During the last week of Move Out, UCSB hosts the GIVE Benefit Sale where the public can buy used items, keeping them out of the landfill.
