I'm 8wks. Why was it hard to find my baby's heartbeat by transvaginal ultrasound? Will I miscarry?

You mentioned that you went to your 8 week appointment, your doctor tried to find the heartbeat using a transvaginal ultrasound and had a difficult time, and they want you to come back in a couple of weeks, and do a follow-up ultrasound, and make sure everything is okay. You're concerned, and of course, looking for some reassurance. It's good that you're following up with your doctor, and they'll be your best resource, because for one, when they do a repeat ultrasound, they can compare the fetal size at that point to how big your baby was at 8 weeks, and make sure they're growing properly, and that they're on trend, and of course, also look for the heartbeat.

Generally speaking, a transvaginal ultrasound can see fetal cardiac activity around 6 weeks, but there are some factors that can affect it. So just because of that fact, it doesn't necessarily mean that something is going to happen or that you're going to miscarry. Really, all you can do at this point is watch for signs of miscarriage, like bleeding, cramping - if you've experienced that, call your doctor right away, and again, keep your follow-up appointment where you'll be able to get more answers. I sincerely hope the best for you, and if you have any other questions for me in the future, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/IntermountainMoms, and recommend us to your friends and family too.
