The TRAGIC Death Of Arthur Tudor - The Boy Who Would Have Been King

One of the most infamous Kings of England is certainly Henry VIII. He's known mostly for his brutal executions of thousands and his 6 wives, however Henry should never really have been King. It was never the plan for Henry to become the King, and he is somewhat fortunate that this happened. Henry had an older brother, named Arthur who would be the eldest son of Henry VII and it would be Arthur Tudor who would be named heir to the throne.

Arthur was a number of years older than Henry, and during his early life was shrouded in great riches and titles. Arthur would be the sign of hope for Tudor England, and would have been the one who would carry on the Tudor dynasty. He became the Prince of Wales and with all young princes, it was believed that he should marry a European princess to establish alliances with England. The princess who Arthur would marry would be no other than Catherine of Aragon, who would later go on to be the first wife of Arthur's brother Henry VIII.

No matter how happy the young couple were after their marriage, tragedy struck shortly after. The couple set up home at Ludlow Castle in Shropshire which was a administrative centre for the Welsh Marches. Here they contracted a horrific disease, and with this Catherine and Arthur became incredibly ill. They had fevers that allegedly made them feel as if their blood was boiling, but Catherine would recover. Arthur would not and he would die of this illness at Ludlow Castle. Henry VII was devastated with his sons death, and with this Henry VIII would be named the heir to the English Throne.
