Jeff Buckley performing the song What Will You Say with guest singer, Alim Qasimov at the Festival of Sacred Music in Saint Florent le Vieil, France on 18 July 1995.

Notes: "On the 18th of July, in Saint Florent le Vieil, for the Festival of Sacred Music, he (Jeff) sang with Alim Qasimov. He had received this unexpected invitation during his show at the Bataclan in February 1995. The band arrived in the little village, in the afternoon, and waited patiently in the sun for the sound check. The azeri singer, Alim Quasimov (also sufi music, but from Azerbaïdjan), was already on stage. Each one of the band went his own way, while the sounds of Alim's voice and drum filled the streets. He sung in a place located in a monastery with big walls, where the show was to take place that night (the sound in those places is wonderful).

Terrified by the idea he had to sing here too, Jeff began to cry: the power and the purity of the voice he had just heard was overwhelming, and made him anxious to perform. However, after his own sound check, he met Alim Qasimov, who said "I loved very much what you were just singing; it was nearly an Oriental song." A few minutes later, the two men were performing together the song "What Will Wou Way", and decided to play it as a duo, that evening. In performance, this was something purely magical."

(Translation from the french booklet 'The Amazing Life of Jeff Buckley')
The legendary and late American musician, Jeff Buckley, in 1995, performed a duet with Alim Qasimov at the Festival of Sacred Music, in France. This is how that meeting influenced 29-year-old Jeff: “The second time I saw my life pass before my eyes because of a human being was when I sang with Alim Qasimov. There was a classical music festival in Saint Florent, in France, in this little summer community. Very small venue, a six-hundred seater. Alim came on, and he's from Azerbaijan, and he's a master singer.

Usually he has these two string players, who are brothers, but they couldn't come down, so he just came with his drum, and he sang, and it was so pure and effortless, and like...a huge hill of blooms. That's what the voice is for. It really is beyond anything I understand right now. It must be, because the breath doesn't flow through me like it does through those men. The voice is an eternal gust of wind that has never stopped, and never began…” This amazing and unthinkable collaboration that one can hardly imagine to happen left us the unique recorded version of “What Will You Say” and proves the deep influence of Alim Qasimov's vocal art and music on different talented and popular musicians.
