The Spladle in MMA - A Single Leg Takedown Defence & Counter

The Spladle is a folkstyle wrestling move that is a cross between the split scissors/banana splits and the cradle which is why it is called the Spladle. Wade Schalles invented the move and now teaches it as a catch wrestling submission.

It is different from a banana split as you will note that on a banana split the opponents head is facing away from your body and is on the mat but in the spladle it is facing towards you and on your chest. It is used mainly in folkstyle wrestling as a pinning move and used to score back points although it can be modified into a submission where it has been used successfully to win one recorded MMA match.

A key point he mentions is that the spladle can be used as a neck crank if you bridge your hips while the opponent is trapped.
