Trump Administration Responds as Protests Escalate at Newark ICE Detention Facility

Protests continue outside the Delaney Hall ICE detention facility in Newark, New Jersey, where demonstrators and several Democratic lawmakers have raised concerns about conditions inside the center, including claims of a hunger strike among detainees. Senators and representatives who visited the facility said the treatment of migrants was unacceptable and called for it to be shut down.

The Trump administration and DHS officials pushed back on those allegations, defending the facility and accusing critics of misrepresenting the situation. Officials also claimed the protests were politically driven, with President Trump suggesting some demonstrators were being funded by outside groups. At least two arrests were made after clashes broke out between protesters and ICE agents, who used crowd-control measures during the confrontation.
