So I've been teasing about this for a fair while now... it's finally here!
I began work on this just before Christmas - so as it's early May now, that makes it easily the most labour-intensive cover I've done to date, even if a fair portion of that work was transcribing. True, I was mostly doing this in the background while working on the other recent covers (Nightfall, Lai Lai Hei etc) but it's almost gotten to the point where I've almost heard the song too many times now, if that were even possible...
For the longest and most epic cover, it made sense to get a few more people involved than normal, so Jacopo makes another reappearance on the guitar (surprise surprise, it's a Blind Guardian cover!) while on the vocal front I'm joined by Charlie, Vicky and Cameron in the Na Naa Na Naa section. Video footage of Cameron only, I'm afraid, though Charlie and Vicky will probably be pleased about that. Cameron also lent his low register to a few extra-low choirs here and there, giving a bit of extra bass oomph where my voice wasn't quite powerful enough ;)
My trusty Jackson SL3MG handled all the guitar recordings my end, Jacopo's ESP Horizon stood him in good stead as well. The Jazz Modified continues to perform on the bass front, and who could forget the SM58 for the literal hundreds (I mean it - possibly even over a thousand) vocal tracks that went into this piece? Most panned choirs you hear are quad- or octo-tracked per melody line, so there's easily fifty individual voices singing simultaneously in some of them, especially the choruses! The Na Naa Na Naa was over double that, but then I had more people for that one so it's a bit of an anomaly...
Incredible work by Blind Guardian in the first place of course, especially seeing as they went and recorded it a second time for the compilation album, so let's hope they like this version!
Axe Fx Triaxis for guitar tones, modified MegaReaper for drums, and Sonatina/Korg microX for orchestrations as always.
Bonus points if you spot the transcription errors I only noticed weeks after I'd recorded the guitar videos... And by that I don't mean the alternate ending I wrote ;)
Enjoy!
