Cursor AI agent deleted my code, here is how I got it back

I was working on a client’s website in Cursor, fixing the landing page. An hour of careful work; adjusting layouts, fixing bugs, making everything look perfect.

Then I asked Cursor to help with one section on page. When I hit enter, my screen showed the old version of my code. My work? Gone. Ctrl+Z didn’t work. Nothing worked.

But then I found something that saved me. A feature in Cursor / VS Code that many people don’t know about. Here’s how I got all my work back and how you can too if this happens to you.

Say you changed a code file and it got deleted, or you deleted it yourself and now need it back.

- Press Ctrl+Shift+P and search “local history: find entry to restore.”

- Type your file name and it’ll show different saved versions with timestamps. Pick the version you want.

- To restore, click the checkmark in the top right. Cursor will ask if you’re sure - just confirm and you’re good to go.

- You can also use the timeline tab in the bottom left to see and restore old file versions.
