Connecting to MySQL Database from Visual Studio Code or Cursor | Step-by-Step Guide

I found this VSCode extension for managing databases: "MySQL by Cweijan".

It let's you manage your database right inside VSCode. No need to leave your IDE.

You can use it with your Al development tools like Cursor or Windsurf as well.

Here is how it works:

1. In VSCode extensions tab, search for mysql. Select MySQL extension by Cweijan and click install.
2. In database tab, click create connection.
3. Select server type, you can select from available server types mysql, Postgres etc. Then enter database credentials and click connect.
4. The connection will show in sidebar. Click on db name and select table from dropdown. The table will be displayed.
5. You can sort and filter columns from table. You can run queries like create new table. You can also insert new records. You can import SQL data from dump files. You can also generate dumps easily and view table DDL.

That's it. Save for later!
