Birds of Lake Tahoe: Christmas Bird Count 2023 aka Participating in Citizen Science at Lake Tahoe!

In this video, I take you on a short tour around Washoe Meadows State Park (south half) and through the Angora Burn area while I participate in the annual Christmas Bird Count (2023). Along the way, I share my experience, some of the gear that I use while birding, and photos* of the birds in which I observed and documented.

This is a fantastic citizen science project in which to participate, and I'm very grateful that the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science leads and organizes it every year (along with lots of other cool nature-related events!).

*Please note that I took the photos that I present in this video on other days. The reality is that the Christmas Bird Count takes precedence, so it's not part of the plan to spend lots of time trying to capture great bird shots. That's not to say that I don't stop and take breaks throughout the day, but the time it takes to capture print-worthy bird photos is far too great for this particular event. So although I document as I go, I'm mostly focused on looking for and counting birds.
