BORNEO NATIVE ART | Bakun Art Experience

I was invited by the National Art Gallery of Malaysia (Balai Seni Negara) to participate in the Bakun Art Experience. I traveled from Kuching to Bintulu and onwards to Sungai Asap. There were various art projects going on with artists from all over Malaysia. The main locations were Uma Belor, Uma Bakah and Uma Ukit in the Sungai Asap region in Belaga, Sarawak.

The Bakun Art Experience was organised to discuss and create art between artists from all over the country. Together with the local communities various art sculptures were created.

I loved my trip here, as I always feel home in the interior of Borneo. I enjoy spending time at the longhouses and getting to know different cultures. I met people from all different tribes, including the Kenyah people, the Kayan people, the Iban people and the Orang Ukit (Ukit People). I also learned that the Orang Ukit are one of the smallest tribes in Sarawak.
