Joe the pigeon: Australia spares bird's life after leg tag suggests it didn't arrive from US

A racing pigeon that was declared a biosecurity risk in Australia may be spared death. It was thought that Joe the pigeon had flown 15,000km across the Pacific to Melbourne. However, the ID label on his leg has come under scrutiny, raising questions about his true origin. The tag was traced to an Oregon pigeon race held in October 2020. But the American Racing Pigeon Union has claimed that the blue band is a fake, and that Joe's home is likely Australia.
