The most prestigious World Avalanche took place at the French resort of Alpe d'Huez. With more than 400 participants on the final day of competition of a total of two thousand athletes , the start was at the Pic Blanc Glacier (3,300 meters altitude).

Among those present, the Portuguese who had already secured a 4th and a 2nd place in previous editions, José Borges, was obviously there.

The current national enduro champion, cautious in the early zone due to the usual snow, quickly settled himself among the front athletes. In about 39 minutes of downhill, José Borges had a fierce "duel" with the French expert Kilian Bron, however, he demonstrated why he’s currently one of the best athletes on the world circuit and won this edition categorically.

The French Kevin MIQUEL, winner of the Maxiavalanche 2019 and leader of the European Massstart Series, completes the podium.

"It was definitely a very tactical race for me. The initial zone of snow is very important, because you need to be very careful and at the same time, gain some lead. I didn’t start in the best way, but after the first difficulties I was already in third. I began to gain confidence and risked a little more until I was in the lead. Afterwards, I only managed the little fatigue I had, due to the previous races, and achieved the victory. It was a child's dream, and the third time was the charm. I take this opportunity to thank Miranda, all partners, family and friends" say José Borges, happy with the result.

The riders were able to start in superb weather conditions. Where the glacier was a little icy yesterday, the snow was able to melt in morning sun and allow the riders to have a better sliding experience!
