Nino Schurter decided at short notice to take part in Basel. The race has served him, as well as many other top athletes, as a final form test for the World Championships next week in Val di Sole, Italy.

He makes his mark on the race and enters the stadium together with New Zealander Sam Gaze, European champion Lars Forster and world champion Jordan Sarrou.

In the sprint, "Mister Mountainbike" loses out to the trio and finishes in 4th place, Gaze prevails over Forster. In the overall standings of the Proffix Swiss Bike Cup, Andri Frischknecht continues to wear the yellow leader's jersey.

A total of more than 800 athletes in the various age groups are registered for the Proffix Swiss Bike Cup at the Bikefestival Basel.
