Quito, Ecuador Travel Guide| Culture| Adventure| All During the Pandemic
I’m not entirely sure where to start but in short, Quito is a gem! My friends and I were not expecting to have as much fun as we did but I’m glad Quito delivered!
I would first like to mention the “Mitad del Mundo” museum is NOT where the equator actually is. The real equator is about 250 yards away. It’s a sham, although it was never intended to be, since the screw-up was caused by a French expedition in 1736 that marked the wrong spot. And get this, the mistake wasn’t realized until just some years ago when the Global Positioning System (GPS) was invented. Unfortunately, the Ecuadorian government had already built La Mitad del Mundo on the present spot to lure tourists. It’s a nearly 100-foot tall monument that’s mildly interesting, and which contains a small museum about the ethnic cultures of Ecuador. And although we had fun at the Mitad del Mundo museum, it was no match for what I experienced and learned when visiting the real equator.
The city is vibrant and filled with beautiful people and amazing culture. It’s really inexpensive except downtown where my hotel was. I paid ‘real’ prices for food and drinks at the bars/restaurants. But with just a quick $3 Uber I could be on the other side of town living like a local and paying those cheap prices for everything.
One thing I quickly noticed about Ecuador is the altitude. I was out of breath just from walking. And even after being there a few days, I hadn’t quite adjusted. But luckily that didn’t stop me! Haha
There is so much to do and see in Quito. As you’ll see we took a cable car up the mountains and there we got to a chance to swing on a cliff which was a rush, we petted & took pics with llamas, and I even got a chance to fly my drone.
I also finally got a chance to go to a natural hot spring which was about 1.5 hours outside of Quito. And it was totally worth the ride!
I have to go back to Ecuador. There is so much I didn’t get to see because to be honest I didn’t know what to expect. I do know that the Galápagos Islands is 1st on my bucket list when I do go back!
I really hope you guys enjoyed this video. It was a bit lengthy but a lot was accomplished during the trip. Stay tuned for my next video on my trip to Costa Rica! That’s gonna be one for the books!
