VW Tiguan rear spring replacement featuring Draper coil spring compressor kit
In this video I show you how to replace a broken rear coil spring on a 2012 VW Tiguan, using a Draper coil spring compressor kit. The Tiguan had recently failed its annual MOT roadworthiness inspection because of the broken spring.
Coil springs should be replaced in pairs, so that's what I did with this car, starting with the broken side. For this first side it took a few attempts to get things right with the spring compressor. This was a fault of how I was trying to use it rather than the tool itself. The second side was much more straightforward and in the video I go through the things I did differently between the first and second spring replacement, that made things easier. Hopefully these points will be helpful for those of you about to embark on your own coil spring replacement.
The video also contains tips on how to make sure you order the correct springs for your VW.
The spring compressor worked fairly well in that it helped me get the springs changed safely. It did require plenty of lubrication and did get bound up occasionally, requiring some encouragement from a plastic hammer to free it up again.
Needless to say the Tiguan went on to pass the MOT inspection with flying colours!
