"Get Me Carlucci" - Kristin Carlucci Weed in conversation with Frank Gannon
Frank Carlucci is one of the most interesting and consequential people to have ever served in the U.S. government.
He served six presidents of both parties for more than two decades.
He was a pragmatic problem-solver. He began his career as a Foreign Service Officer in the Congo in 1960 during the tumultuous years of African decolonization. As the point man for the United States charged with interacting with all the top figures in the Congolese government, Carlucci survived a stabbing attack to his back during a political uprising.
Owing to his friendship with fellow Princeton alumni Donald Rumsfeld, Carlucci was recruited into the Nixon administration and tasked by President Nixon to implement a humanitarian relief program in the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Agnes, inadvertently becoming the “father of FEMA”. He was named Ambassador to Portugal at the height of the Cold War and eventually shaped Cold War policy as National Security Advisor and Secretary of Defense under President Reagan.
Join Secretary Carlucci’s daughter, Kristin Carlucci Weed, in conversation with Frank Gannon, former Special Assistant to President Nixon, as she shares her father’s inspiring story of service at the Nixon Library.
