Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix (PS4) - Marluxia (LV1 Critical) *No Damage*
Marluxia is in the running for the best boss fight in the game so as a result I have fought this guy hundreds of times making it quite easy for me. Normally though he is quite difficult on LV1 since everything one shots you and progressing further into the game doesn't really help much but he is one of the easier bosses to learn.
He will normally start the fight with a rapid swing attack you can block. Note that he will not recoil to any blocks unless you block the last hit and when you do, he will counter attack a second later so you want to counter yourself to stun him out of his counter. When comboing Marluxia, you want to do very specific attacks. You want use Finishing Leap as your only ground finisher, then do a normal aerial, a Horizontal Slash and then 2 air finishers. Marluxia teleports when you hit his Revenge Value and attacks you fairly quickly so you need to be back on the ground as soon as possible so you can roll his attack.
One of the biggest attacks you want is for Marluxia to create a tornado to suck you in before doing a massive jump spin. Since the attack is so heavily telegraphed, it's quite easy to block and the payoff for doing so is massive. When the spin attack ends, he has a small window where you can trigger one of two Reaction Command. If you are closer to his scythe, you will do an RC that restores 13 to your doom count but it can never go above your level so it's worthless here. The other Reaction Command happens if you closer to him and not his scythe and that is the one you want. This Reaction Command is absolutely ludicrous and does a full bar of damage despite how weak I am.
Marluxia's most common attack is the dark pools. Most people just let him finish it but you can actually attack him the moment he spawns to cut off his attack. If he does successfully get the pools off, run to the edge and wait. He will usually attack with the thorn cage after which would normally be a problem without Glide but Marluxia just so happens to attack you in the perfect way to save yourself. If he goes into the ground and does a buzzsaw, just block and wait for the cage to explode. Your block's invincibility frames last a really long time and should stop the cage from hitting you. He can also jump over the pools and do a combo next to you. Blocking this will also avoid the cage. Lastly, he can slowly walk towards you which sadly will require you to reflect to avoid the cage.
When he down to hit last 5 bars, he will start spamming one of his two Desperation Moves in between every combo. When he levitates into the air, he will follow behind you creating dark pillars. The best way to avoid this is to hold the left stick and occasionally tap the right stick to make it spin around you slowly. When the attack is about to end, he will pull his scythe back, telegraphing he is about to throw it. You want to quickly turn around and block twice, followed by a Dodge Roll to avoid the final hit. He also has a buzzsaw-like DM where he chases you around. This attack is actually bugged on PS4 as of version 1.05 which makes him turn the saw move very quickly. Although to be honest, I find this actually makes the attack easier to dodge because all you have to do is stand by the wall and guard. When the attack ends, if you are unable to attack his opening, be prepared to either block or guard when he reappears.
