Victoria Public Housing Lockdown Class Action

In July 2020, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews took a page out of the Chinese Communist Party’s playbook and suddenly locked down nine public housing towers in Melbourne, preventing residents from leaving their own homes by surrounding the entrances with police. Consequently, a class action was filed by around 3000 residents against the Victorian Government, with the plaintiffs claiming that they were wrongly detained and threatened with physical harm if they tried to leave the towers. The ombudsman found that not only was it a breach of human rights, it was a breach of the law, something the government denies. Despite this, the Victorian Government have offered to settle the class action for $5 million (taxpayer money, of course) giving each resident about $1600 apiece. The residents say it’s a slap in the face and they demand a full apology, something the Andrews’ government doesn’t want to do. Daniel Andrews obviously has delusions of grandeur with dictatorial tendencies.

DANIEL ANDREWS’ QUOTES
“I make no apologies for keeping Victorians safe… by treating them like prisoners.”
