The Tasmanian devil is found exclusively on this Australian island, separated from the main island by the Bass Strait.
The Tasmanian devil is a mammal, and has the world's strongest bite in proportion to its size.
They feed mainly at night making use of their excellent sense of smell.
They are scavengers, but sometimes they hunt small wombats, kangaroos, wallabies that may be three times their weight and size.
They usually form groups of between 2 and 5 individuals, and disputes at mealtimes are often quite alarming.
The sound they make is terrifying, and this is partly why they have received their devilish name.
Sadly, in recent years, their numbers have fallen by up to 60% because of a type of facial tumor they easily contract: infected Tasmanian devils die between 12 and 18 months after contracting the disease.
