WE LOVE Gjirokastër!!!

Gjirokastër is truly love at first sight. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the old town is famous for being a well-preserved city of authentic architecture and its fortress overlooking the entire city, the old houses lean against the slopes of the hills with their beautiful old wooden facades. Being the birthplace of the Nobel-laureate writer Ismail Kadare and also of the notorious communist leader Enver Hoxha, the city is intriguing and controversial as it preserves all phases of history. There’s plenty to see, not only in this exceptional town, but also in the whole region.

Very close to the old town, is Përmet, the city of roses crossed by Vjosa river, the only wild river in Europe.
Another interesting unexplored region is Tepelena, with history and beautiful canyons and waterfalls. We will be slowly exploring this region to create our own unforgettable experience.

What we suggest to do in Gjirokaster :
1. Go for an evening walk in the old town. The bazaar, cafes, and the unique backdrop of the Castle of Gjirokaster will have you drooling and we are sure you will have so many instagramable pictures.

2. Enjoy the wide selection of restaurants and local cuisine with a cold Albanian beer! Our favourite restaurants we have tried in Gjirokaster are Taverna Laberia, Restaurant Mapo (Old Town) and Restaurant Kashah Piceri (Old Town)

3. Take in the HISTORY! - Gjirokaster is jam packed full of amazing history. There are literally tons of historical sites and scenes. One of them being the Skenduli house. The Cold war tunnel, the Castle of Gjirokaster and even an Ethnographic museum that used to be the house of Enver Hoxha.

4. Do not forget to chat with the friendly locals and enjoy their offerings of Raki and grilled meats. The locals of Gjirokaster have been the most amazing and warm people! We genuinely wish that we could stay here for longer just to show more of these unique local experiences.
