Perspective Part Two - Painting the Illusion of Depth

Welcome Back to Another BobBlast!

Perspective, Part Two! In last week's BobBlast, we looked at two-point perspective, or two vanishing points you can use in your paintings. This week's BobBlast is a short demo about three-point perspective - three vanishing points, which means you can easily draw or paint an object looking at it from above.

For an example, see my quick sketch of a box. You can see the top of the box closest to you, and also see two sides. Think of hovering above the box, city scapes or farmhouses so you can see them from the top view. This three-point drawing technique is giving the object you are painting the illusion of depth… a convincing illusion! The box top appears closer and larger from your vantage point, but appears smaller the further away you are.

There are a number of steps necessary to draw this technique - watch the video and you will see step-by-step instructions for three-point perspective. You will need some simple materials:
•Large sheet of drawing paper
•Ruler
•Pencil or marker
•Black and white acrylic paint
•Brush and water

This is a general video to get you started. Try other painters' three-point techniques as well. Everyone has their own way!
