Pedro Sanchez: 'We are on the right side of history' for Eurovision boycott

"We are on the right side of history," said Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in a video message posted on X, discussing the country's decision not to participate in this year's Eurovision song contest.

"In the face of illegal war and also a genocide, silence is not an option" he added, citing Israel's war on Gaza and Lebanon as direct reasons for the boycott. As one of the competition's top financial contributors, the move sent a strong message about Israel's continued participation in the contest despite the continuation of its genocidal war on Gaza.

The Eurovision final is due to be held in Vienna on Saturday, with Israel set to compete.
