Kubota L3301 Grading Driveway
I borrow the son in laws Kubota L3301 to begin grading our half mile gravel driveway. Instead of the lighter and new Kubota blade, I opt for the much older ('70) rustier and heavier three point Ford blade to beat up on the hard packed roadbed instead. I usually grade the sides into the center then back drag to create a slight crown in the roadbed.
After grading about half of it, the old Massey Harris 30 is hooked to the 4,000 pound roller to beat the freshly loosened gravel into a more packed bed. A moment is taken to describe how the tongue of the roller can be shifted left or right to kick the roller to track beyond the outside of the rear tires. This is a great option to keep the brush and low hanging limbs on the side of the road out of the operators face.
The roller does a great job breaking into pieces some of the larger creek rock we use on the road. Some of them literally become pulverized with one passing, but others take multiple hits with the roller. There is a little 1" minus crushed stone on portions of the road but that is not touched in this video. IIRC, we put 40 to 44 tons of that crushed rock on about two months ago and did a video on rolling that portion as well back then.
All in all it was just a fun afternoon for an old guy playing with his toys...not unlike a toddler in a dirt pile....LOL. Maybe next time I'll have the old Allis Chalmers Speed Patrol Grader running well enough to grade the whole length.
Hopefully you enjoyed a few minutes of my fun afternoon at least half as much as I did.
