Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze has held talks in London with Prime Minister Tony Blair.

The leaders discussed the situation in troubled Georgia, bilateral cooperation and regional security.

The Itar-Tass news agency reported British officials told Shevardnadze they were satisfied with the border control in the Chechen sector of the Georgian-Russian frontier and did not plan to propose an enlargement of the group of OSCE observers.

At a joint news conference, Blair announced his government was ready to offer financial support for the decommissioning of former Soviet military bases in Georgia.
