CIA’s Threat Assessment Of China Is Scary

This is the CIA’s unclassified threat assessment of China: They expect that China’s demographic and economic challenges will make them an aggressive and unpredictable actor. They think that China will try to undercut US influence in the world and try to shape the world in a way that would accommodate authoritarianism. China will increase their pressure on Taiwan, and seek conflict with Japan and the Phillipines in an effort to claim territory that isn’t theirs. The Chinese economy will continue to slow down and they will try to overcome the United States as the world’s Science and technology superpower. It’s assessed that China now rivals the US in DNA-sequencing research. They will continue to rapidly build nuclear weapons because it has determined that their current arsenal is insufficient enough to deter an American first strike on them. The PRC is also believed to possess chemical and biological weapons. It plans to overtake the US military by 2049 and to become the world’s space leader before then by putting a man on the moon before 2030. They remain the most active and persistent cyber threat to the US. The CIA concluded that China is actively trying to exploit American social divisions and is actively trying to mold US public discourse through TikTok. They have also assessed that the PRC uses students in the US to collect information, spread propaganda, and influence research. And they may attempt to influence the US election this year.
